Description
This is an antique decorative spoon made by the Norwegian designer Marius Hammer. It is a demitasse spoon and measures 4 5/8 inches. There are 3 small rings on the end of the handle of the spoon and they are not included in the measurement above as I have measured the length of the solid spoon. This is an antique spoon as Marius Hammer operated his business (with his sons) from 1871 to 1930. This was made during this time period and I believe towards the early rather than the latter part of this period. The spoon is made from 830S silver and the hallmark shows this along with the initials for Marius Hammer. The entire spoon has been gilded in gold. The bowl of the spoon has an embossed (raised) image of the North Cape of Norway. Under the image is the embossed word "NORDKAP". The handle is decorated in a "raised" pyramid pattern. The end of the handle has an image on either side. On the front side is a Norwegian man in traditional dress with a pair of skis. On the back of the handle is an image of a reindeer pulling a man in a sled. The back of the handle has the same pyramid pattern as the front. The back of the bowl shows a pod of whales in the ocean. This is a gorgeous and unique piece in excellent condition. This is a great conversation piece or a stunning addition to a collection. There are no scuffs or scratches on this item.
