Description
Washed, baked, and sifted fine sand for starting fine seeds. Why washed? Because you do not want to sow fine seed onto salty sand.
Why sterilized sand? Because you do not want any other seeds or spores competing with your fine seed.
Why sifted fine sand? Because when you are sowing very fine seed, it is almost impossible to spread the seed evenly.
So you mix the seed with a bit of the sterilized sand and then sprinkle this mix over your sowing surface. I use a layer of peat moss (for moisture and nutrients) with a layer of sterile vermiculite on top, then a layer of sterilized sand which has all been moistened. Then I mix my seed with some of the dry sterile sand and sprinkle it evenly onto the moist sand surface.
Or for starting leaf cuttings that need excellent drainage, such as succulents.
It can also be used to create your own potting mix to accommodate you specific plants.
Many plants need special soil mixes. Some, like cactus, prefer almost all sand and not salty beach sand.
This sand can also be used in art projects, terrariums, layered in glasses for decoration, and a stabilizer for floral arrangements.
This listing is for ONE POUND of washed, baked, and sifted sand.
ATTENTION: If you intend to use this sand for an aquarium, Please Wash The Sand Again to insure there are no particles so small they would cloud the water.
